Green initiatives

We utilise cloud technology to minimise energy and paper consumption, complemented by a hybrid model that reduces carbon emissions through decreased travel. Our efforts include promoting recycling, supplying eco-friendly office materials, and implementing energy-saving lights on timers.

Social impact

We prioritise responsible data management and employee wellness, featuring annual wellness days and support for staff sports teams. Outside of our doors, we are involved in a variety of initiatives that drive social development. We also promote career growth and address gender equality in the tech sector.

Governance practices

Our governance criteria feature robust internal practices to ensure effective decision-making, legal compliance, and fulfilment of external stakeholder needs. This includes a diverse, politically unaffiliated board of directors, equitable hiring with a performance-based bonus scheme for all employees, and an environment that encourages open discussion and innovation.

At BBD, we believe in the transformative power of education. Our educational initiatives focus on empowering young minds and providing opportunities for growth and development. From supporting local schools to partnering with educational programs, we are committed to fostering a brighter future through learning and mentorship.

Afrika Tikkun

Afrika Tikkun is a non-profit organisation created with the goal of developing and uplifting young people in under-privileged communities in South Africa. BBD is proud to contribute toward Afrika Tikkun’s skills development programme on end user computing and coding for out of school youth.

Ikusasa Lethu Programme with St Mary’s Waverly

Running since 1990, Ikusasa is a Saturday school programme offering supplementary learning to Grade 10–12 students from underprivileged communities in Maths, Science, English, Computer Skills and other core subjects. BBD volunteers support the initiative by introducing students to technology and basic software development, helping them explore and question solutions to real-life challenges. The aim is to show learners how powerful tech can be in driving social impact and to open their eyes to the career opportunities the industry offers.

ORT SA CAPE Education

ORT SA CAPE works with children and teachers in disadvantaged communities in South Africa. BBD donates to ORT SA’s education programme, which is aimed at equipping educators with the skills and knowledge to introduce robotics within their school environments.

WeThinkCode_

WTC is a tuition-free programme based in Johannesburg and Cape Town South Africa that educates the next generation of software engineers. As a founding partner of the programme, BBD has been extensively involved in supporting this often life-changing initiative, with first- and second-year students’ complete internships at BBD, with some of the top third-year students then joining our Grad Programme.

Baitiredi High School

Baitiredi is a technical and commercial secondary school based in Kuruman in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. As one of the biggest schools in the district, it educates over 1 000 learners in subjects such as Mechanical Technology, Civil Technology and Technical Science. BBD is proud to have donated a computer lab to expand the school’s educational offering.

Transkei school outreach

Following the successful rollout of computer labs for schools in rural and far-flung areas, BBD had identified two remote schools in the Transkei with absolutely none of the basic requirements to keep their 300 learners engaged and learning as they should be. In aid of this, BBD has proudly sponsored both schools with various pens and pencils, notebooks, colouring books, overhead projectors and other school learning materials to help them better serve and educate their learners.

Zanemvula Junior Secondary School

Situated on a green grassy hill overlooking the wild coast, just 25km from the small village of Willowvale in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province, Zanemvula School educates just over 190 students. In the hopes of igniting a passion for tech and better opportunities for kids within this small community, BBD has donated a computer lab and stationery for Zanemvula’s learners.

GirlCode

GirlCode is a registered NPO that aims to empower girls through technology and address the shortage of skills and lack of women in tech. As an established partner, BBD assists GirlCode in fundraising and workshop initiatives to help bridge the gender gap to open the industry to future growth and to create a thriving, inclusive tech sector.

Pink Codrs Africa

PinkCodrs Africa empowers women by providing in-demand tech skills through a 12-month software development programme that blends technical training with confidence building, employability support and long-term career readiness in a community-driven environment. BBD supports the initiative through mentorship, industry exposure and hands-on learning opportunities that help participants transition into the tech workforce.

Community
development

Building strong, vibrant communities is at the heart of our corporate social responsibility efforts. BBD actively engages in various community development projects, from supporting youth programs to contributing to local non-profits. Our goal is to create positive, lasting impacts that enhance the well-being and resilience of the communities we serve.

Dilasa Microfinance Foundation

BBD India’s partnership with Dilasa Microfinance Foundation highlights our commitment to community empowerment. Founded in 2010, Dilasa Foundation focuses on uplifting the underprivileged by facilitating income generation activities and business scaling. Recognising the potential for positive impact, BBD India collaborated with Dilasa to address socio-economic disparities and advance sustainable development. Together, we’ve provided essential resources to schools in need, enhancing infrastructure and educational materials across four locations in Daund. Our hands-on involvement ensures seamless execution, with overwhelming feedback indicating not just improved educational facilities, but also a renewed sense of hope within these communities.

Kerus Global

Kerus is a trust focused on providing training to teachers, youth leaders and other community heads to create positive change for individuals and communities in third-world countries. BBD has donated a computer lab for school kids in the area to complete homework, tablets for care workers to use during home visits, and projectors and sound equipment for the organisation to host workshops and training seminars.

Surfers not Street Children

Originally founded as a Durban street surf team, today Surfers not Street Children aims to empower children to leave the streets by offering a programme that fuses surfing, mentorship and psychosocial care. In support of this, BBD has equipped the initiative with new computers and training, and spruced up the space with fresh paint and new desks.
