Overview of the solution
The first step in the solution was designing, configuring, and deploying an enterprise-grade AWS Landing Zone using AWS Control Tower. This allowed the client to migrate workloads into a fully governed, multi-account AWS environment. Control Tower enabled BBD to implement industry-standard governance and compliance guardrails, enforce Service Control Policies (SCPs), and manage IAM roles and groups. This Landing Zone was designed to comply with stringent telecom industry standards while remaining cost-efficient and operationally manageable. Once the Landing Zone was established, BBD focused on migrating workloads in phases, with each workload designed, architected, and costed independently to ensure a controlled and measurable approach.
Approach
Following a phased approach, workloads were migrated in stages, leveraging Dev, Test, Acceptance, and Production (DTAP) environments for thorough SDLC-based testing. This ensured consistent functionality, improved performance, and maintained user experience. Workloads were assessed, designed, and costed individually. Migration tooling such as AWS MGN (Application Migration Service) and DMS (Database Migration Service) was used to facilitate efficient and reliable migrations. To allow the client to focus on business-critical priorities, operational tasks for AWS workloads were offloaded to BBD Cloud Managed Services, which ensures health and performance monitoring, compliance with security and governance standards, and cost management through FinOps practices.
Impact of BBD’s partnership
BBD successfully assessed and developed a scalable, governed AWS environment using AWS Control Tower, enabling the client to confidently expand their AWS footprint. By subscribing to BBD Cloud Managed Services, the client could focus on business priorities while BBD handled operational management, including cloud financial management, support and maintenance of AWS services and infrastructure, monitoring and reporting, and the ongoing evolution of the AWS environment. Control Tower was pivotal in providing a centralised governance model, multi-account structure, and automated guardrails, ensuring operational consistency, compliance, and security throughout the migration lifecycle.
